Les Groseilles premier cru

Appellation: Premier Cru
Area under vine: 0.5166 hectares (12.07 ouvrées)
Sun exposure: South-east facing.
Soil: The soil is largely limestone, also including rock, marl, sand, red silt, and large crushed pebbles.
Grape variety: 100% Pinot Noir
When planted: 10% in 1937, 40% in 1990, and 50% in 1991
Vineyard: The vines are grown without the use of pesticides or insecticides, and only natural fertiliser (manure) is used. Ploughing keeps the soil loose and well-aerated, and no weed killers are applied.
Fermentation: The grapes are hand picked into small crates, sorted in the vat room and 100% destemmed. Cold fermentation for 7 days is followed by temperature-controlled alcoholic fermentation with two pigeages (punching the cap) a day and maceration for 21 days.
Barrel-ageing: Aged on the lees in oak barrels (30% new) for 15 months, with late-occurring, natural malolactic fermentation. Neither fined nor filtered. Racked and bottled by gravity flow.
Tasting notes: Closed when young, Les Groseilles develops and ages very gracefully. The texture is quite fine, enhanced by firm, yet elegant tannin. The wine's delicacy is the perfect illustration of what one hopes to find in this premier cru.
